Kate Middleton, The Duchess Of Cambridge, wants to be on the streets to tackle London's homeless epidemic. The Duchess, living up to her role as goodwill ambassador, would like join British actress and activist Lisa Maxwell by sleeping on the streets.
The "Sleep Out" public awareness campaign will raise awareness about the plight undergone by London's homeless population. Maxwell commented on Middleton's desire to participate in the "Sleep Out." She said,
"She asked me about sleeping out, so I said: 'Next time I do it, you're doing it with me. No excuses."
Way to take the Duchess to task, Lisa! Kate isn't the only member of the royal family who is rallying for the homeless. Hubby Prince William is a patron of the Centrepoint charity, an organization which helps give homeless people a future.
However, a spokesperson for the royal couple denies that reports of Kate's upcoming "Sleep Out" are true. The spokesperson said,
"There are no plans for the Duchess to sleep out for Centrepoint. She doesn't have any official role with Centrepoint, but will obviously continue to support the Duke in his patronage of the charity."
During Prince William's 2009 "Sleep Out" near Blackfriars Bridge, the young Prince nearly got run over by a street sweeper. Chief executive of Centrepoint, Seyi Obakin, said,
"He was determined to do it as patron to raise awareness of the problem and to be able to understand a little better what rough sleepers go through."
A spokesperson from St. James' Palace said,
"Prince William took away from the experience the importance of tackling all the issues that cause people to be homeless and stay homeless, from drug dependency to mental health problems."
Would you sleep on the streets to raise awareness about the homeless population?
