Somali troops enter former militant port city

(AP) ? Residents in the southern Somali port city of Kismayo say Somali troops have entered the city for the first time since Kenyan troops carried out an amphibious assault on the coastal port city last week, causing al-Shabab militants to flee.

Mohamed Hashi, a resident, said Monday that Somali troops entered town and were firing shots but that no fighting was taking place. Hashi said he hopes there won't be chaos and looting.

It isn't immediately clear if Kenyan troops fighting alongside the Somali forces have also entered.

Al-Shabab last week said it was pulling out of Kismayo, its last stronghold. The al-Qaida-linked group collected taxes at the city's port, a major source of funding for the militants.
